Smith & Walser's "Dead Fry"

This pattern fished on a swing with the occasional pop, for river smallmouth is deadly. It is also an awesome saltwater pattern, that has caught almost every surface feeder we have thrown it to. You can vary the sizes to the size fish you are throwing to very easily with this pattern as well. Try fishing this in the surf when the bait is being busted... You will love it!

Shad Variation

Hook: Tiemco #8116 size 8-1/0

Thread: Does not matter 1/0

Tail: White fish hair, under 10 stands of crystal flash, under aqua green fish hair, with silver holographic tinsel tied in last (4-6 stands on each side of the hook). Tie in 1/4 back from gap of hook. Make a knot and cut thread off.

Body: Foam Panfish spider bodies White or Yellow. The Size will vary to the size hook. Hold the body next to hook. You want it to start right behind the eye and extend back, just over the tail. Take two bodies and sandwinch them on both sides of the hook. You will add a drop of ZAP-A-Gap on each body and press them together as stated above. * Be very careful not to glue your fingers together!!!

Coating Over Body: Pearl E-Z Shape over the entire body... Do not get any on the tail.

Eyes: Drop two big drops of black E-Z Shape on either side of hook, towards the front to make the appearance of eyes.
